The next stage

Plenty of things have happened since my last post on this blog.

I have seen a reduced effectiveness of my facebook ads (to be expected) but sales are still ~ok.  But I certainly got continuous great fan interaction and feedback, and even some from industry veterans.  Very glad to see fans so happy with the game.

Chapter 3 expansion work is in FULL swing, after some slow periods because of the busy dayjob, and some tricky creative decisions I had to make, and which led me take a small break and work a bit on my evil spinoff app.

But I have since negotiated an extended career break with my boss, and am now for at least 16 months a pure game developer!  Very exciting for me, and also for my whole family because we decided to spend that time living in Spain.

Work on chapter 3 is well progressed, I created the creatively challenging chaos plane sequence, functionality to include levers so I can have dungeon puzzles/riddles, and am currently working on ARENA functionality, where a NPC gives out non-lethal fight challenges.  With opponents, restrictions on magic or items, several waves, allies and rewards can vary to create a vide array of settings.

I also started a fair few maps, but there is definitely a lot more work to be done.  Given the move to Spain is kicking off next week I would say chapter 3 is a May thing.  But beta testing of specific parts will start in April.

Many thanks to all my players and fans!  If you want to support me on my journey to create ever more great games, please consider becoming a Patreon (freshly set up earlier today based on fan request)!

    • thanks! please spread the word. 😎

Making chapter 3 is proving quite challenging because of my own (and fans’) expectations. The difficult second album I guess…

  1. I’m about to craft a party for my 3rd play through (specifically to try defeating all of the challenge waves) and as much as I love the mini-game that can be rolling to get stats/feats I desire it would be nice if I could somehow unlock an additional potential feat to make it a little easier to match the feat to stats to balance out the unlocking of even more potential feats.

  2. Just picked this up and found a cave with a ton of bats, lizardmen and a poison dragon. I was level 2 when I entered this, but the dragon gives a ton of xp. I only won because of the nature’s ally skill. It summoned two bears that won the whole fight. Thanks grizzlies.

      • Yep, this cave is huge. I’m heading outside because I need to train, Found your game due to a post on RPGWatch. I don’t have a rogue, so I’m gonna have to spend some lockpick points on my ranger. I like all of the choices. Do I try to kill the spiders, tackle the undead dude (I found the cache), go back and finish this cave, steal from town, etc. Also, just trying to make optimal choices in the level up menus is also pretty fun. I find the cleric to be really weak, so I’m tempted to start over too and go with fighter, ranger, rogue, mage, druid, druid. Choices, choices.

  3. One question if I may: When I press the map key, there is a very fast flash that has tips but it lasts less than 1/100th of a second. How do I read those tips? Anything in the options slow down that window?

  4. Enjoyed the game… I was an Ultima fan, and this game has recalled every fun and infuriating aspect, including walking the map more than Frodo and Sam!

I am currently at an impasse. All my characters are fairly high level (80-90 range) and have won most every arena event. I’ve lined up 10 allies for the Chaos Lord. I’m missing the elf ghost (no idea on how to secure him) and the dragon summoner (I stole his dad’s axe?) and I cannot parse the Lich tower puzzle. Are there any entries that can shed light on these? Or should I just go ahead and challenge the Chaos Lord as is?

Thanks for a lovingly produced game. I intend to recommend it to others.
